MAYOR DESTEFANO CELEBRATES OBAMA’S PRIMARY WIN
(2/6/2008) NEW HAVEN- At a Democratic Town Committee event at Hula Hanks in Downtown New Haven Tuesday, Mayor John DeStefano, Jr. congratulated Connecticut voters for demanding change. DeStefano, a supporter of Senator Barack Obama’s (D-IL) Presidential campaign, announced his endorsement of the candidate last month.
“Today’s vote for Senator Obama is a vote for change,” said DeStefano. “We’ve demonstrated that we need change from the disastrous policies of the last seven years. This is a call for new politics that gets things done.”
Obama swept votes in New Haven at a ratio of nearly 2:1 against Senator Hillary Clinton (D-NY). In some of the City’s wards, upwards of 500 votes separated the two candidates from one another.
DeStefano cast his vote early Tuesday morning and spent much of the day visiting various neighborhoods throughout the City encouraging residents to vote, regardless of who they were supporting. “I congratulate all New Haven residents who went to the polls today and exercised their right to vote,” said DeStefano.
